About Us
Meet Dhorea: Our Founder
Dhorea Ramanula is a visionary leader and changemaker who is profoundly committed to fostering empowerment and healing. As a Woman of Colour, Métis, and a mother, Dhorea is deeply familiar with the challenges posed by outdated and disempowering systems, especially for women. With years of professional and personal experience, she excels in breaking down barriers and challenging the status quo to uplift and empower women from all walks of life.
Dhorea’s work is particularly noteworthy in the realm of addiction recovery. In 2022, she founded Hemi's Healing Centre, to provide a safe, upscale, and holistic recovery environment. Dhorea wanted to honor her late mother, Hemi, who unfortunately passed away after decades of sobriety. As such, Hemi's Healing Centre caters to all women, including those from marginalized communities, offering an array of innovative healing modalities and wraparound services.
Beyond her direct work in healing and recovery, Dhorea is actively involved in community development. She holds positions on multiple community boards, where her passion, humor, and charisma contribute to creating meaningful change. Her presence alone commands respect, ensuring everyone feels seen, heard, and valued, a testament to her commitment to serving humanity.
In her professional career, Dhorea has made significant strides as UBCO’s Community Engagement Facilitator and the former President of British Columbia’s Black Women In Excellence. Her dynamic spirit, energy, and enthusiasm are evident in her tireless efforts to uplift women of color in entrepreneurship, creating a world brimming with freedom and opportunities.
Dhorea’s philanthropic efforts have been recognized and celebrated, including her nomination in the top 10 of Fab 40 over 40 for cancer awareness and co-founding National Suicide Awareness Day in 2004. Dhorea’s contributions are acknowledged in the Journal of Dental Education, among other accolades.
At the heart of Dhorea’s work is the vision of Hemi’s Society, a world where healing, empowerment, and thriving replace mere survival. This vision encompasses breaking cycles of addiction, trauma, and abuse, fostering healthy family dynamics, and ensuring physical, mental, and spiritual health as fundamental human rights.
Dhorea Ramanula is not just a leader; she’s a beacon of hope and strength, guiding others toward a future where unity, healing, and empowerment are ideals and realities for all.
