A Safe Space Where Healing Begins
Hemi's Holistic Healing House is an inclusive, trauma-informed recovery society for all women — including BIPOC, Indigenous, 2SLGBTQ+, and self-identifying individuals — in Kelowna and the Okanagan Valley.

Calling All Changemakers
Hemi's Holistic Healing House is a registered non-profit society founded to fill a critical gap: there are no dedicated, inclusive recovery programs for women in the Okanagan unless they have children. We exist to change that, one life at a time.
A Crisis Without Enough Solutions
Why This Matters
In British Columbia, the toxic drug poisoning crisis was declared a public health emergency in 2016. Women — particularly those who are marginalized, racialized, or 2SLGBTQ+ — face the highest risk and the fewest supports.
Our vision is a 10-bed residential healing home where women aged 19–99 can stay in 30-day increments, accessing holistic, culturally safe, trauma-informed care — at the lowest cost possible.
Programs run daily now. Our goal is to operate 24/7, fully funded through grants, donations, partnerships, and PWD/insurance support.
Inclusive by Design
Who We Serve
The only program in the Okanagan — and possibly BC — that is fully inclusive of all self-identifying women, including those who are often turned away elsewhere.

Why Hemi's Works
What Makes Us Different
Recovery isn't one-size-fits-all. Hemi's is built from the ground up to meet women where they are — with care that is as unique as each person who walks through our doors.
Truly Inclusive, No Exceptions
We are the only recovery program in the Okanagan — and one of very few in BC — that is fully affirming of 2SLGBTQ+ individuals, self-identifying women, and those turned away everywhere else. If you belong anywhere, you belong here.
Mind, Body & Spirit – All At Once
From Indigenous ceremonies and reiki to art therapy and bio-resonance, our programs treat the root causes of trauma and addiction — not just the symptoms. Real recovery means healing every part of you.
Affordable, Accessible Care
We accept PWD funding and insurance, and offer donation-subsidized spots so financial barriers never stand between a woman and healing. Our costs are among the lowest for programs of this kind in BC.
Built By Someone Who Gets It
Founded by Dhorea Ramanula — a Métis Woman of Colour, community leader, and changemaker — Hemi's is led by someone who has lived the barriers these women face, not just studied them.
Your Story Guides Your Care
No rigid programs or punitive rules. Every woman receives a personalized care plan — tailored to her history, identity, and goals — with a dedicated case manager who walks alongside her journey.
Kelowna's Gap, Finally Filled
There are zero dedicated residential recovery programs for women without children in the Okanagan. Hemi's House is the answer the community has needed since the crisis was declared — and it starts with you.
Frequently Asked Questions
Everything You Need To Know
Whether you're a donor, grantmaker, potential resident, or community partner — here are the answers to the questions we hear most often.
Who can access Hemi's programs?
Any woman aged 19–99 who self-identifies as a woman — including cisgender women, transgender women, non-binary individuals, and 2SLGBTQ+ community members. We also prioritize BIPOC, Indigenous, and marginalized women. You do not need to have children, a referral, or private funding to apply.
How much does it cost to access Hemi's House?
Costs are among the lowest for programs of this type in BC. We accept PWD (Persons with Disabilities) support, insurance coverage, and offer donation-subsidized spaces for women who cannot afford out-of-pocket costs. No woman is turned away for financial reasons.
Is Hemi's House open now?
We are currently running daily programs and outreach services. Our full 10-bed, 24/7 residential healing home — Hemi's House — is in the process of being funded and opened. Your donation directly accelerates that timeline. We are actively applying for grants and seeking community partners to open our doors as quickly as possible.
Can I donate to a specific program or need?
Yes — we welcome designated gifts toward specific areas such as the property lease, staff wages, programming, or subsidized resident spaces. Please reach out via our contact page to discuss a designated donation or major gift. All donations are processed through Zeffy, which charges no platform fees — 100% of your gift reaches Hemi's House.
How is Hemi's different from other recovery programs?
Most recovery programs in the Okanagan either exclude self-identifying women and 2SLGBTQ+ individuals, require participants to have children to qualify, or offer only clinical services without holistic healing. Hemi's is the only program in the region that is fully inclusive, holistically focused, and trauma-informed — led by someone with lived experience of the barriers these women face.
I'm a grantmaker — what documentation can you provide?
We have a full media kit, founder biography, program description, budget outline, and letters of support available on request. We are happy to schedule a call with Dhorea to discuss alignment with your grant criteria. Please contact us through the form and note that you are a grantmaker — we prioritize those responses.
How can my business or organization partner with Hemi's?
We welcome corporate sponsors, in-kind donors, professional services partners (legal, accounting, medical, communications), and community organizations. Partnership opportunities include naming rights for the house, sponsorship of specific programs, property lease support, and event collaboration. Visit our Get Involved page or contact us directly to explore options.
Take Action Today
Every day matters. Every dollar saves lives.
In BC, 9 to 11 people die from toxic drug poisoning every single day. Women — especially those who are marginalized, racialized, or 2SLGBTQ+ — are dying at five times the rate of any other group, with almost nowhere to turn. Hemi's House exists to change that. But we cannot open without you.
